Featured image by picturepurrfect on Flickr Ah, the joys of that first getting-to-know-you period! I received an email recently that reminded me of my dating days. The person was an ENFP an Extraverted, flexible green , dating an ISTJ an Introverted, structured gold , and wondering how to make a relationship work between two opposite personality types. Here are the tips I gave the person who emailed me, based on personality knowledge and my own experience. Golds thrive on responsibility and duty. The biggest complement you can pay them is to tell them they are reliable, dependable, capable, and solid. When he calls when he says he will, when she takes a chaotic situation and uses cool reason to turn it into an organized pattern, when he shows you that you can count on him no matter what. This applies especially when the new thing is not reliable, dependable, capable or solid, as in the case of an ENFP personality type. Sure, millions of people were tested each year and then hopefully had their 4 letter type codes validated by trained psychologists, but in the end we still want to see physical, concrete proof. According to a study by Debra L. Johnson, entitled “Cerebral Blood Flow and Personality: A Positronic Emission Tomography Study,” published in the February issue of the The American Journal of Psychiatry, the flow of blood throughout the brain is different for Introverts and Extraverts http:

This Myers-Briggs personality is defined as primarily being introverted, intuitive, feeling, and perceiving, although this description really only scratches the surface of this character. An estimated four to five percent of the population has the INFP personality. Although there is a fairly balanced ratio of males and females with this character, it does seem that this persona appears slightly more often in males.
When a conflict does arise, this persona may have a profound emotional reaction. They often go by their feelings rather than what science, facts, or logic suggests. Most individuals with this type of personality do not really care if their opinion is right, they simply care about how a situation or a person makes them feel. That is not to say that these individuals cannot be logical — they can, quite successfully, with self-training and abstract thought practices.
INFPs make great listeners and because they are usually non-judgmental they are often sought out by friends who need to vent. This sort of individual may look for hidden meanings in the actions and words of others and may even go so far as to imagine a meaning where none lies. This is simply a result of the dreamer aspect of this personality shining through. INFPs tend to be perfectionists and often strive to reach personal ideals that can be exhausting or even impossible to obtain.
Teamwork is a difficult scenario for this person to be in because they often have higher goals or expectations for the project than the other team members; this can cause an INFP to come off as a control freak. In a relationship, this persona will be looking for inspiration, stimulation, and passion. They feed off of the emotions that others can generation within them.

ESFP also has a tendency to concentrate strictly on the present. This lack of foresight into the future may prevent them from attending to issues that could have a major impact on the success of the connection.

This creates a great balance between the two partners. So when they disagree on something, the efforts to come to a solution will rarely turn into a fight. The ESFJs can get extremely pessimistic and discouraged under certain circumstances.
As such, the ENFPs prove to be very understanding and supportive of them. ENFJs are profoundly perceptive and love to discuss meaningful topics. INTPs are thinkers, and they are into ideas and theories. ENFPs love to talk and can indulge in talking endlessly. INFPs, on the other hand, are calm and reserved and they like to listen. This makes the two personality types perfect for each other.
